Meet V. Selvaraj, an interior designer turned part-time professional karaoke singer based in Hyderabad. In this interview, Selvaraj shares his experiences and insights on pursuing music while balancing his primary career, overcoming challenges, staying informed about developments in his field, and more. 1. Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in your field?

Answer: My name is V. Selvaraj (Uday Kumar) and I am an interior designer by profession. I have been interested in music since childhood and that turned into my passion for singing, which I have taken up as my part-time profession.

2. What are some of the most significant challenges you have faced in your career and how have you overcome them?

Answer: As someone with an interior designing background, I used to find it difficult to take out time for music. Therefore, I decided to quit my job and start my own firm so that I could dedicate more time to learn music. This led me to join a music college and pursue my diploma in Hindustani vocal.

3. Can you share a project or accomplishment that you are most proud of and why?

Answer: One of the most memorable experiences for me was working with music directors Ghantadi Krishna garu, Mr. Praveen Immadi garu, Mr. Vandemataram Srinivas garu while recording tracks. Another milestone was performing in front of legendary icons like Ms. Suseelamma garu, Mr. Suman garu, and being felicitated by them and receiving awards from them was a great blessing.


4. How do you stay current and stay informed about developments in your field?

Answer: I am a person who believes that every day has something new to learn. In this context, I browse a lot on the developments taking place in the field of music, attend concerts of other singers, and discuss with my friends who are into music and try learning a lot from them.

5. Can you talk about a specific moment or experience that has greatly impacted your career or life?

Answer: Way before I started my career, I, along with my friends, went to a musical event where new talents were encouraged. Though we all went as an audience, one of my friends from the group motivated me to go and perform on the stage. In fact, this was my first stage performance. This made me realize that I can also perform and take up music as my career.

6. What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career in your field?

Answer: I would suggest taking out as much time as possible and keep practicing right practice. I also suggest learning music and staying focused on it.

7. Can you share any upcoming projects or initiatives that you’re excited about?

Answer: I am willing to take up projects as and when they come, and I am looking forward to new opportunities.

Selvaraj’s passion for music is evident in his dedication to pursue it despite having a different career path. His experiences in the music industry serve as an inspiration to those who want to follow their passion and make it their profession.
